Moderate Deviations in Poisson Approximation: a First Attempt
Poisson approximation using Stein’s method has been extensively studied in the literature. The main focus has been on bounding the total variation distance. This paper is a first attempt on moderate deviations in Poisson approximation for right-tail probabilities of sums of dependent indicators. We obtain results under certain general conditions for local dependence as well as for size-bias cou...
متن کاملModerate deviations for Poisson-Dirichlet distribution
Poisson-Dirichlet distribution arises in many different areas. The parameter θ in the distribution is the scaled mutation rate of a population in the context of population genetics. The limiting procedure of θ approaching infinity is practically motivated and has led to new interesting mathematical structures. Results of law of large numbers, fluctuation theorems and large deviations have been ...

We prove that the Moderate Deviation Principle (MDP) holds for the trajectory of a locally square integrable martingale with bounded jumps as soon as its quadratic covariation, properly scaled, converges in probability at an exponential rate. A consequence of this MDP is the tightness of the method of bounded martingale diierences in the regime of moderate deviations.
متن کاملModerate Deviations for Queuesin Critical
We establish logarithmicasymptotics of moderate deviations for the processes of queue length and waiting times in single server queues and open queueing networks in critical loading. Our results complement earlier heavy-traac approximation results.

Let (Xn)n≥1 be a sequence of random variables on a probability space (Ω, ,P) and p ≥ 1 a fixed real number. We say that (Xn)n≥1 is Lp-bounded if it has finite pth moments, that is, ‖Xn‖p ≤ C for some C > 0 and any n ≥ 1. Let ε > 0; finding the rate of convergence of the moderate deviations probabilities P[|∑k=1Xk| > εan] with an = (n logn)1/2 or (n loglogn)1/2 is known in the literature as Davi...
